Oregon is a split state, though only barely. Nearly the entire state runs on Pacific Time — PST (UTC−8) in winter, PDT (UTC−7) from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November. The exception is most of Malheur County in the far east, including the city of Ontario, which keeps Mountain Time.
The Malheur County exception exists because Ontario and the surrounding Snake River farm towns do their banking, shopping, and commuting across the Idaho line in the Boise area, so their clocks match Idaho's Treasure Valley rather than Portland's. Driving US-20 or I-84 east toward Ontario, you lose an hour without ever leaving Oregon; Portland, Salem, Eugene, and everywhere else west of that corner stay on the Pacific clock.
