About time in Jacksonville
Jacksonville has been consolidated with Duval County since 1968, which makes it the largest city by land area in the contiguous United States — and every square mile of it keeps Eastern Time. Florida is a split state, but the boundary runs far to the west: Central Time begins only past the Apalachicola River, along the Gulf–Bay county line, more than 200 miles from downtown Jacksonville.
Florida's legislature voted in 2018 to adopt year-round daylight saving time — the "Sunshine Protection Act" — but the change cannot take effect without an act of Congress, so Jacksonville still moves its clocks twice a year.
At 30.3° N daylight is comparatively even through the year, from about 10 hours 10 minutes at the winter solstice to just over 14 hours in late June; the St. Johns River port terminals (JAXPORT) work those hours on ET.
